Q: How long has Long Island Craftmaster been in operation?
A: We've been in continuous operation under the same license since 1990. I like to say that we've been through 8
presidents, 4 hurricanes, and 2 recessions. We've done a lot of work!
Q: Are you licensed and insured?
A: Absolutely-- and this is a very important question to ask. Make sure your contractor has the PROPER license as well. If your contractor holds a landscaping license (because its a lot cheaper), that's a red flag.
Q: Can you start any sooner?
A: You should expect that an excellent contractor will have a backlog-- people wait for iPhones because its a quality product. The same principle applies in our industry. If your contractor can start NOW, wonder why.
Q: Can you help me with the design [my project is simple]?
A: Yes. In fact, that is one of the things I enjoy doing most. We have tackled every project you can think of, and we love sharing our design ideas.
Q: What makes you different [from other contractors]?
A: Project management-- we're engineers and business persons at heart and we like to start and finish things efficiently. This saves time and money for everyone involved, especially for our client.
Q: I had a contractor who never seemed to be around, and the project dragged on forever. What about you?
A: Unless we can't work (like waiting for floor finishing to dry, or weather), we are on site every day to make sure this doesn't happen.
Q: Do you require a big deposit to get started? What are your payment terms?
A: We're a financially solid company, so unless we are special-ordering something, we only require a modest deposit to hold your spot on our schedule. Payments are based on an easy to understand progress payment schedule; in other words, you pay as we finish each milestone. You don't pay in advance. Milestones are plainly spelled out in the project proposal we prepare for you. We want you to tell your friends that we run a fair, honest company-- and to call on us again in the future.
Q: Do you clean up everyday?
A: Yes. Drop cloths and dust barriers go up in the morning. Everything gets cleaned up at the end of each day. It seems like a little thing, but it's not.
